Sicherung und Erhaltungsstrategien eines elektronischen Kunstwerks mit informatischen: Stefan Altenburger, Satellite, 2000

Authors: Irene Müller and Marc Egger (2006)

A part of the larger AktiveArchive project is on preservation strategies for electronic art works containing informatics components. As an example of research in this domain, the authors created a description of the work ‘Satellite’ (2000) by Stefan Altenburger.

The work ‘Satellite’ (2000) by Stefan Altburger (*1968, Zürich) can be seen as an electronic art work containing informatics components. ‘Satellite’ is a projection whereby a common computer program – the most successfully sold computer game ‘Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000’ – is projected onto a wall through a projector. The programme runs on an equally common computer with a normal system configuration. The artist confirmed certain specific settings in the programme – from a choice menu that is standard present in the programme –; the software itself was not manipulated.
