The production of media art goes hand in hand with media art presentation, and this has been the case ever since 1830. Photography, once conceived as part of the media arts – was from the moment of its creation exhibited during lectures and in museums, albeit science museums but that’s another story. Photography and video art have in the meantime separated themselves from the category of ‘media arts’ which now covers the artistic practices that serve themselves of network technologies of the late 20th and early 21st century. The term ‘media art’ is often accompanied by the problematic adjective ‘new’ and covers works which use security camera’s, handheld computer systems, GPS, mobile communication, internet technology, computer- and videogames, etc.
