Until now, migration is the most popular preservation strategy for preserving digital archival documents. Migration is also an important step in the digital preservation strategy as presented by the DAVID-project. This preservation strategy departs from the archiving of digital archival documents in their original as well as their migrated file format. The migrated file format offers guarantees more readability and by also preserving the original application format, all options stay open for the future.

This text contains guidelines and recommendations so as to avoid migration being an uncertain process full of risks. One does this by defining a migration path. This way, you ensure that the entire conversion process happens in a controllable and reliable way.
