Collaborations

PACKED does not limit its collaborations to its partner organisations argos, M HKA (Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp), Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (MDD) en S.M.A.K. (Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art - Ghent).

In a complex and rapidly evolving field of the archiving and preservation of audiovisual arts (and audiovisual cultural heritage in general), collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and experience are necessary. PACKED welcomes collaboration proposals and requests.

PACKED is part of an international informal network of organisations involved in the archiving and preservation of audiovisual arts. Through collaboration and exchange these organisations try to develop methods and standards for the archiving of audiovisual arts. Some examples of international collaborations:
- from July, 2009, onwards, PACKED, together with the Nederlands Instituut voor Mediakunst (NIMk / Netherlands Media Arts Institute, Amsterdam) will be researching the preservation of audiovisual equipment for audiovisual arts (click here for more information);
- PACKED collaborates with the Labor für antiquierte Videosysteme van de Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie (Laboratory for Antique Video Systems at the Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe) PACKED on the digitising of video works by Danny Matthys from the’70s and the ’80s (click here for more information);
- PACKED, together with Independent Media Arts Preservation (IMAP, New York) exchanges o.a. interviews with artists and experts for online publication, and coordinator Rony Vissers represents PACKED in the Advisory Council of IMAP.

But PACKED also collaborates with organisations from the international field of cultural heritage. PACKED is one of the partners (from 24 countries) involved in the European project ATHENA. Within ATHENA, PACKED collaborates as national coordinator with the Koninklijke Musea voor Kunst en Geschiedenis (Royal Museum for Art and History, Brussels), Stadsarchief Antwerpen (City Archive of Antwerp), Modemuseum (Fashion Museum, Antwerp), Collectie Vlaamse Gemeenschap (Collection of the Flemish Community, Brussels), Koninklijk Instituut voor het Kunstpatrimonium (Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage, Brussels) and Koninklijk Museum voor Midden-Afrika (Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren) (click here for more information).

In Flanders PACKED is an o.a. member of the Cultureel Erfgoedoverleg (Cultural Heritage Meeting) and the Europeana Vlaanderen Overlegplatform (Europeana Flanders discussion platform). Together with o.a. Expertisecentrum DAVID (Antwerp), Vlaams Steunpunt voor Cultureel Erfgoed FARO (Flemish Interface Centre for Cultural Heritage FARO, Brussels), Instituut voor Beeldende, Audiovisuele en mediakunsten BAM (Flemish Institute for visual, audiovisual and media art, Ghent), Vlaams Theater Instituut VTi (Flemish Theatre Institute, Brussels), de Boekentoren UGent (de Boekentoren – University Library Ghent), … PACKED is also one of the instigators from the field of cultural heritage of the Archipel-project, a sequel to the research project Bewaring en Ontsluiting van Multimediale Data Vlaanderen (BOM-Vl / Storage and Distribution Multimedia Data Flanders).

For its collaboration with audiovisual artists, PACKED will assist Auguste Orts (the production platform of Herman Asselberghs, Sven Augustijnen, Manon de Boer en Anouk De Clercq) with documenting its productions.
